JACKSONVILLE, FLA — It was standing room only by the end of the book signing event for “Stephen And The SEE GULL Visit the Beach,” written by Kurtis Loftus, that was held on Thursday, July 31 at the Book Mark in Neptune Beach, Fla.
“It was a special evening,” said owner Rona Brinlee. “The Book Mark was honored to host this event.”
The book was also featured during an interview with Kurtis on WTLV12’s “First Coast Living” program earlier that day. View the segment here: http://www.firstcoastnews.com/video/default.aspx?bctid=3706972081001
“Since the time my two daughters were infants, I have wanted to illustrate a children’s book immersed in the discovery of outdoor space as seen through their brand new eyes.” explains the first time children’s book author and publisher.
Stephen is a year old when he first visits the beach. A SEE Gull helps him discover from a “bird’s eye view.” SEE Gull shares the beauty of discovery for the child in all of us. On each page, Kurtis merges pointillism and light watercolor to reveal a “bird’s eye view” of the world, enhancing their unique “macro” view that adults can take for granted. It’s in that close-up world where a child’s imagination can flourish.
“Children love the turn of a page and the anticipation of what is to come on the next spread,” says Kurtis. “This book takes advantage of that tender moment between adult and child — sitting together, turning pages and sharing in the joy of discovery.”
Limited edition copies retail at $20 each. A percentage of proceeds from book sales will benefit Bright Eyes Uganda, a private, nonprofit, non-denominational organization working in Uganda under the umbrella of The MIMA Foundation.
The mission of Bright Eyes Uganda is to care for the indigent and underserved populations of Uganda, specifically the children. The goal is to improve the infrastructure of their rural villages with clean water, nutritional food, accessible health care and quality education. Bright Eye’s ultimate goal is not to give a person a fish, but to teach that person how to fish so they may teach someone to fish. www.brighteyesuganda.com.
