JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. (July 24, 2014) – Kurtis Loftus, President and Creative Director of The Kurtis Group, a long-standing Jacksonville Beach marketing and advertising boutique, was presented the first City of Jacksonville Beach WaveMaker Award for Outstanding Service as a Community Leader.

The WaveMaker is a new award developed by The Honorable Charlie Latham to identify and lift up individual efforts to make the community a better place for its residents and visitors.

A Proclamation of Esteem was read by Mayor Latham during the City Council meeting held July 21, 2014. Kurtis and his close family were in attendance. Loftus was recognized for his involvement in many community and fundraising efforts. His most recent accomplishments include raising over $11,000 for 26.2 with DONNA while setting a Guinness World Record for Longest Surfing Marathon in 2011, providing creative support for Ferry Fest and Friends of the St. Johns River Ferry, and founding the successful Deck the Chairs, which benefits the American Red Cross Volunteer Lifesaving Corps and started a new Beaches holiday tradition.

“It doesn’t take much to understand how special the Beaches are,” explains Kurtis. “You could live here for 25 years, or just come for a two-night stay, but you know immediately that the people who live, work and play here are very fortunate.”
